An nice older elder that I know that lives mostly off the good graces of his hardworking business savy son in law told me that I would be one of the few in the circuit to have a 'golden retirement' or 'retraite doré' as he put it in French. He alluded that I should rethink my priorities haha ! I've just been doing what is reasonable and responsible all along. Some others I know are still in for the very obvious reason of banking on their inheritance.

Retirement Planning for ex-JW's
by Simon inthis is something i think about a lot, possibly because i'm just getting older.
it seems that not only should i finally one day decide what i want to do with my life, but i should also be planning for retirement.. hands up everyone who feels their future has been royally screwed by the wts experience?.
if you were a good jw and followed the wts advice you could well be finding yourself facing middle or even old age without much or anything put aside in retirement savings.

"Only Baptized Ones have Unrestricted Privilege of Prayer"
by BluesBrother ini was sitting at the recent circuit assembly that i attended, (the things i do for sis blues) and the baptism talk was under way .
i admit that my mind was more on my imminent packed lunch and flask of coffee but i distinctly heard the speaker make the statement that heads this thread and cite a wt reference.. you what !
i was shocked....... how can they possibly make such an arrogant statement ?

Which bible character do you hate the most?
by Bonsai inthe more i think about it, the more i feel an extreme dislike for the apostle paul.
he was on par with hitler in his treatment of the jews before he "saw the light".
he replaced jesus teachings of love and mercy with a more legalistic, pharisaical concept of devotion to god.. any evil person can come to believe in god and worship him if the scales were literally and miraculously removed from his eyes.

Couldn't take it anymore.
by Darkknight757 inso i decided yesterday to give my wife's full disclosure.
not sure it was the best decision considering she holds very firmly to the resurrection hope so we can see our babies again.. anyways she is agreeable to begin a study to find a better truth.
where is a good place to go to get some good reliable biblical info on the web that we can consider together?.

Though not perfect of course I find Arne has a good handle on scripture having studied with various Christian denominations. He draws some interesting conclusions and his commentaries as well as translations are enjoyable.

BP is also a good place for any Bible student :

HUGE relief knowing I don't have to toe some imaginary line anymore, it's now between me, my Creator and his Son. I remember being asked by a JW friend what I though about the 'Truth TM' and I told him I don't believe in organized religion. He laughed and belittled me saying I knew NOTHING about the Bible. Well I studied, went in, got baptized and low and behold a few short years later I proved myself right. I still don't believe in organized religion. Maybe some are better off in, but as for myself it's a no go, just don't fit. Again leaving is a HUGE relief and am glad not to be bound to a borderline illegal organization that will have the law catch up with it one day soon. Wouldn't want to be in their shoes. I still a believer and read and study daily, my speed my terms but within scriptural boundaries, not that of men if that makes any sense. -

Seems to me they changed things simply for the sake of progress.. The brown songbook did have some good melodies and I used to actually like singing along to most of them and would do well. The mighty warrior one ( crossing the red sea ) and a few others still stand out in my mind. They dropped the ball big time with the new stuff, often times tried and proven simply works don't mess with it !
